Episode 25: Wood Burning Stoves

In this week’s episode, The Insiders discuss the Health Hazards of Wood Burning Stoves, along with many of the State & National Regulations of Wood Stoves which may affect Buyers and Sellers in a Real Estate Purchase.

Highlights:

The DEQ notification and the epa are really just trying to burn cleaner, it is in everyone’s best interest. The verbiage typically on the wood stove addendum is:
the un-certified device must be entirely removed from the property including: garages, outbuildings and shops. Wood stoves, retailers, chimney sweeps, or others may perform the removal and destruction. Seller removing an un-certified device themselves may take it directly to a metal scrap recycler, or a DEQ approved landfill. Sellers must obtain a receipt from the contractor or retailer verifying that the device has been destroyed and then notify DEQ. So if you are going to do it right that’s how you do it;

  1. you take it to the appropriate place,
  2. you get a receipt,
  3. and then you report it.

That way the documentation stays with the house. You can then bring in a certified device or switch to a gas fireplace.
